That night my bassist called me. That was an emergency, cuz he wanted me to steal a tuba for a show he was employed as a sound engineer. I couldn’t refuse, considering it not that hard since I was in Dresden, Germany and probably could find a Musical College there.
Later that night in cooperation with an adult local, I slipped into Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber, passing all the security cams and never ringing an alarm. Everything was just awesome until we both finally got into the storage room, where the tuba was fortunately found among the other brasses. And just then my German accomplice suddenly felt an unquenchable desire for playing the tuba! Of course the idiot made a lot of noise!
The security guards came pretty soon, the alarm rang, the cops arrived in less than 5 minutes… We were surrounded, had to surrender and of course were caught.
Honestly, I was ashamed!!! Me, being caught on a robbery!!! What the hell?!
But that wasn’t all…
I stood on the porch, two cops on guard and close, and listened to the director of the College, an aged intelligent woman, that blamed me, saying: ‘You, a young charming girl, a mother, a wife… You attempted to steal a tuba?! Why? What was it that pushed you to such a malevolent and shameful crime?!’
I listened to her German English, flushed and was really willing to go straight down to hell. But my shame was nothing compared to my panic, when my husband arrived. The most thrilling part was I couldn’t remember myself getting married, but everyone around recognized him. Probably he was well known here, in Dresden. He talked to the director and reasoned the cops, calmed down the security guards, then simply grabbed me and placed me into the car.
He spoke! OMG! He spoke exclusively German, and I didn’t get a word! All the way home I tried to recall our marriage, but couldn’t remember anything at all. I couldn’t even remember myself getting to Germany and starting a life here…
Of course the child woke up, when we got back. Of course my husband slammed the door, turned on all the lights in the house, of course he was pissed and angry and freaking out! I tried to calm down my kid and also tried to recall what’s his name and how did he even happen to be born, but to my terrific shame I couldn’t remember neither my pregnancy, neither his birth, neither anything after… I didn’t know his name, I didn’t understand a word from my husband’s lips and I didn’t know his name too!
The only thing I remembered was I had to leave to Italy. But I also couldn’t remember why and what for… Nevertheless I found it reasonable to calm down my man in bed, grab my kid, steal my husband’s car and leave southwards this very night…
Was a pity though I didn’t get the tuba for my bassist.
